Once bred females are monitored closely for proper nutrition, exercise and overall condition. All first time Mommies are examined and/or x-rayed to ensure that the delivery of the puppies will be safe for a natural birth for both mom and babies. |
Two weeks prior to delivery expecting Mommies are kept quiet and allowed to rest as much as possible, diet is monitered, temperature is taken to help monitor the Females overall physical condition. Whelping area and supplies are organized in preparation for the puppies arrival. Moms to be are bathed and groomed with special care given that the puppies nursing area is clean, sanitary and hair trimmed if necessary.
Five to Seven days prior to the expected due date continued monitoring of overall physical condition, nutritional needs are monitored, whelping box and/or blankets are provided, surveillance camera is placed so 24 hour monitoring and emotional support may begin.
Three to four days prior to whelping date special care is taken to monitor temperature often three times a day to predict labor patterns and any changes in overall physical condition.
During delivery the dam has 24 hour monitoring and continual emotional support whatever that may be. Each Golden Mommy is different and each one has their own unique needs, special care is given to provide each with their own uniqie needs. The birthing area is kept especailly quiet and removed from any outside distractions to eliminate as much stress as possible. Temperature of the whelping area is maintained to accomadate the newborns. Once the birthing process begins puppies will be born every 15 minutes with an hour to hour and half break in between births. |
Once puppies are born the mother is quick to finish the birthing process and will continually clean her puppies and the surrounding area, resting in between each birth. With the continual monitoring of the birthing process, distressed puppies receive prompt attention and are cared for until they are stable enough to reurnthem to the whelping area. The birthing process is monitored continously until the last puppy is whelped. |
Once the last puppy has arrived Mom is taken outside to stretch, eliminate and get some fresh air while fresh bedding and puppies are evaluated. Once inside she is provided with fresh water, warm bowl of chicken broth and given the opportunity to get some well deserved rest with minimal interuptions. Mom and puppies are monitored using the surveillance camera allowing them to rest peacefully for several hours. |
This puppy is just minutes old....
This picture illustrates the special care that is given to the babies once they are born. This puppy has just been born and you can see how careful the Mother is about making sure the babies airway is clear by licking it and stimulating it to breath.
Three to five days after delivery mom and puppies continue to be monitored, fresh bedding is provided when necesary and left to rest undisturbed for as long as possible. During this time the Mommies generally do not like to leave their babies and are very reluctant to leave even to eliminate. She continues to receive warm chicken broth and rice along with fresh water. |
The first three days after delivery are crucial to a puppies survival. Puppies that have inhaled fluids during the birthing process or possibly simply have something that has not developed properly in utero will be lost within this time. While we enjoy the miracles of birth we must also accept and respect death in doing so each breeder and their families can strength in the miracle of life itself. |
More coming soon.........
